Saying “NO MORE” at the Capitol
Advocates from PCADV and the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape’s community-based programs across the state converged on the Capitol in Harrisburg on April 29 to say “NO MORE” to domestic violence and sexual assault.
Playing off the teal-colored, doughnut-shaped symbol of the national “NO MORE” campaign, the advocates distributed 253 doughnuts with teal icing to legislators and urged them to support an increase in funding for victim services in the 2014-15 state budget. Thanks to Giant Food Stores for donating the doughnuts.
Advocates wrote how they say “NO MORE” to domestic violence and sexual assault on white cards and posted them on a sticky wall in the East Wing of the Capitol. View a video from the wall.
Last year, PCADV programs provided 85,332 domestic violence victims and their children with emergency shelter, civil legal representation, counseling and medical advocacy. Another 4,481 requests for shelter went unmet due to insufficient state funding and federal sequestration cuts, and 75 staff positions in local programs were eliminated. It’s time to say “NO MORE.”
