Thirty years ago, a colleague shocked me with a call asking me to hide her from her husband. That call opened my heart to domestic violence victims. As a guidance counselor, I am concerned about children living with violence and teens in unhealthy dating relationships. Any help I can give makes our world a better place. Valarie Ripka is one of those rare individuals whose quiet, behind-the-scenes actions result in far-reaching benefits for countless others. As such, the Abuse Network, Inc., is extremely grateful for the opportunity to honor Valarie. After all, it was her vision and vibrancy that inspired others to act on behalf of local women victimized by violence and oppression.
