It takes only a thought to bring Vicki´s bright eyes and welcoming smile to my memory. Her death brought the reality of domestic violence to our newspaper family. If, through honoring Vicki´s memory with our efforts, we Victoria Howard Clary was a Marketing Consultant for The Susquehanna County Independent newspaper up until August 7, 1999, when she was murdered by her estranged husband. Vicki´s co-workers were deeply saddened and moved to make a difference in their own community. The newspaper established a memorial endowment, erected a memorial plaque, and raised funds in loving memory of their slain co-worker. Family members and friends at the newspaper established a place setting for Vicki as part of the memorial art exhibit, An Empty Place at the Table. Editor Susan Gesford and the staff intimately understand the importance of public awareness and accurate reporting on domestic and sexual violence.
