The murder of my daughter Randi changed my life. It is my personal commitment to give violence against women a voice by using my experiences as a victim of an abusive marriage and the tragic murder of my daughter. This journey allows me to become a role model for those who face violence in their lives. Since the murder of her daughter in January 2003, Nancy Chavez has become a strong advocate for increasing efforts and funding to support agencies such as Domestic Violence Services of Cumberland and Perry Counties. She has demonstrated great courage by her willingness to share her personal tragedy in very public forums. Nancy joined with family members of domestic violence homicide victims at a rally held at the state Capitol in March 2005 to urge passage of legislative protections. Nancy speaks with compassion and vigor. She has made it her life mission to ensure that services will be available to victims of domestic violence in her community. She leads by example and is dedicated to the causes of promoting and ending violence against women and children. | A Tribute to 30 Remarkable WomenIn Celebration of 30 Remarkable Years Working to End Domestic Violence, Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence Pays Tribute to 30 Remarkable Women Making Domestic Violence History.
