I am a feminist with a passion for peace, harmony and justice. I grew up in a dysfunctional family with verbal, emotional and physical abuse, so for the last 27 years ending domestic violence has been a driving life force. Seeing positive life changes in our clients has made the journey overwhelmingly satisfying. Nancy Bergey makes the world a better place. A nurse for 24 years, her current role as a full-time volunteer reflects herdetermination to create a community where the voices of abused women and children are heard. Instrumental in creating the shelter in 1979, Nancy volunteers and has served on our board for over 25 years. On humid afternoons, she plants flowers at the shelter; on frigid mornings, she solicits donations for our annual auction; and every day, she makes a difference. Many board members attend meetings and consider their job done. Not Nancy. She speaks regularly on the topics of domestic violence and rape prevention and has committed herself to our Capital Campaign to provide much-needed services to victims of violent crime. | A Tribute to 30 Remarkable WomenIn Celebration of 30 Remarkable Years Working to End Domestic Violence, Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence Pays Tribute to 30 Remarkable Women Making Domestic Violence History.
