Women are dying and suffering at an intolerable rate while there prevails a general belief that violence against women is a problem of the past. As chief law enforcement officer of Bucks County, a woman and a witness to this savagery, it is my mission to utilize every resource to combat this violence and complacency. Last year, there were 12 deaths caused by domestic violence within a six-month period in Bucks County. As news coverage showed Bucks County District Attorney Diane Gibbons at a murder scene or holding a press conference, it was apparent, from the fatigue and strain on her face, that this woman cares. She understands. In forming the Bucks County Fatality Review Team this past year, Diane stated, “Too many women are getting killed. It has to stop.” Her words spoke to the hearts of staff at A Woman´s Place. What was most impressive was that she wasn´t couching her commitment as “stopping family violence” or “stopping women who are violent, too.” She names the crimes for what they are: violence against women. | A Tribute to 30 Remarkable WomenIn Celebration of 30 Remarkable Years Working to End Domestic Violence, Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence Pays Tribute to 30 Remarkable Women Making Domestic Violence History.
