As Sheriff, I have sworn to support the Constitutions of the United States and this Commonwealth, and protect the rights of every citizen, including the most vulnerable – women and children who live with the reality of domestic violence. We must be vigilant and care for these victims. Swift intervention is my duty and my promise. Carolyn Bunny Welsh – the first woman to be elected Sheriff of Chester County, the only female Sheriff in Pennsylvania, and one of only 33 female sheriffs in the nation - has always been an advocate for domestic violence victims/survivors. Independent from her job as Sheriff, Bunny held several events raising over $35,000 to support Domestic Violence Services of Chester County. Domestic Violence Services of Chester County has an outstanding collaborative relationship with Bunny and the Sheriff´s Department which has the responsibility of serving protection orders. Bunny assures that all her deputies have the education and training to effectively serve the orders and provide follow-up with the victims and the program. In addition, she has petitioned the County to adopt local rules which will provide increased protection for battered women and their children. | A Tribute to 30 Remarkable WomenIn Celebration of 30 Remarkable Years Working to End Domestic Violence, Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence Pays Tribute to 30 Remarkable Women Making Domestic Violence History.
